C. SAMURAI Paint Painting Procedures

24.What are the steps of spray painting for the best results (as recommended by Samurai)?

  1. Sand and wash the part to be painted. The previous clear coat should be sanded off with an 800/1000 grit sandpaper and washed properly so no dust, grease or any other dirt is on the item.
  2. Spray Samurai 2K04 Surfacer as primer for plastic parts or 2K05 Red Oxide Anti-rust Surfacer or 2K06 Silver Grey Anti-rust surfacer for metal parts.
  3. After the primer has dried, the surface must be sanded again with 800/1000 grit sandpaper and washed. After sanding with 1000 grit sand again with 2000 grit.(If this step is skipped, the final result will still have a glossy finish, but with this step, the final product will have a mirror finish)
  4. Spray the undercoat/base color coat if using the fluorescent colors ( UC1002 U/C Flourescent), bright colors such as red, yellow, etc (2/102 White), Khameleon 3D Paint (30/109 Black) and 2-coat system. If dark colors like black or grey, no need for the undercoat.
  5. Spray the top color coat.
  6. Spray the top clear coat using Samurai 2K01 Top Clear Coat for the best glossy finish and good protection for your motorcycle.

25.Do I need to sand the item before painting?
Yes, we highly recommend sanding the items with 800/1000 grit sandpaper before painting so the paint adheres better to the surface of the item being painted.

26.Do I really need to use a primer?
Using the 2K04 Surfacer or 2K05/2K06 Metal Surfacer is very highly recommended. 2K04 Surfacer provide excellent sanding properties, protect against corrosion and chemicals, increase the top coat adhesion and safe for use on all conventional paint system, without messing up the original paint underneath. 2K05/2K06 Metal Primer work by penetrating deeply into the surface and forms an air and water tight barrier that provides excellent anti-corrosive protection and long lasting durability.

27.Do I need a base color coat before the actual final color coat?
For dark colors (black, brown, grey, dark blue, dark green, etc), and white color, you do not need to spray on a basecoat. But for the lighter or brighter colors like red, orange, yellow, etc, then a base color coat is highly recommended to make the light colors stand out.

28.What is the process for the Samurai Water transfer film?

  3. Cut the water transfer film into the desired size.
  4. Put masking tape or make small incisions along the edges so as to avoid having the film roll up when placed in the water.
  5. Wet your finger and put a small amount of water on both sides of the film. The side with the sticky part should be placed facing the water.
  6. Wait for the film to flatten out. Remove any air bubbles by tapping on film gently.
  7. Spray the water film activator on the film.
  8. Immediately after spraying, slowly dip the item onto the film.
  9. Shake the item under the water until the excess film is removed.
  10. Remove the item from the water and let the film dry under hot sun for about 10-15 minutes.
  11. Wash off the glue on the item in the water until all the sticky part is clear.
  12. Dry the item again.
  13. Put on the top clear coat.

29.What base coat should I use for different colors?

  1. WHITE – for brighter colors like red, yellow, pink, blue, gold, fluorescent colors, etc.
  2. SILVER – for candy colors and metallic colors
  3. BLACK – Khameleon 3D colors
  4. UC1002 U/C Fluorescent – Samurai Fluorescent paints.

30. What sandpaper should I use prior to spraying?
We recommend using sandpaper with 400 grit, ensuring both the sandpaper and the surface are wet. This sandpaper can be used on both metal and plastic surfaces.

31. How can I be sure that I have completely removed grease or oil off the surface?
We suggest using our Motorcycle Shampoo (CM07) as it contains.

32. How do I create matte effect?
Apart from using our paint from the Flat Colours range, we highly suggest using Clear Coat 2K01A as it gives matte finishing.

33. What is the difference between marble effect and crystal effect?
For marble effect, we create the pattern on our own using objects such as crumpled plastic bags and finger whereas crystal effect is formed on its own from the spray. While we can create various pattern with the marble effect, the crystal effect could only create the ‘cracking’ effect.

34. Can I spray 2K paint on my motorcycle exhaust?
We recommend using only Hi-Temp paint on your exhaust as it can withstand up to 600 °C temperature.

35. Can the Paint Remover (PR500) be used on plastic surface?
We do not encourage using it on plastic surfaces in case the product would be too abrasive on plastic surfaces. However, it is safe to be used on metal surfaces.

36. How to restore old and dull lamps?
We recommend using 2K clear coat (2K01). Refer to how-tos section for a step-by-step tutorial.
